Prenatal Care
Midwifery care is unique in that we are building a relationship with you and your family- which will be especially important as you welcome us into your home for the most intimate moments of your life. During prenatal care, there is a large emphasis on nutrition, education, and informed consent. Prenatal visits typically last about an hour so that we can not only check on the wellbeing of your baby, but also you as a whole person. We offer all routine testing and labs, but prenatal care is tailored to each individual family's wants and desires.
Postpartum Care
Right after the birth, we will keep a close eye on mom and baby to make sure everyone is adjusting well. Once you're settled with your baby, we may float in and out of your room as we finish charting, brew your postpartum herbs, continue to monitor vitals, and start on the clean-up. We will assist with getting your baby on the breast if you desire and fix you something to eat. Once you're ready, we will help you to the bathroom and take a shower. Then your baby will get their first newborn exam, weighed, and measured. Before we leave, we will clean up all the mess, start the laundry, and take out the trash. You can expect to see us back at 24 hour, 4 days, and 2 weeks postpartum. The best part - we are still on call for you if you have questions or concerns!
Home Birth
You can expect that your midwife will arrive when you are in active labor. We do our best to be "flies on the wall" while we set out our supplies and make our initial assessments. We will intermittently check vitals for mom and baby to ensure that everyone is safe and healthy. Depending on your preferences, we may offer suggestions about labor positions, etc. After your baby is born, immediate skin to skin, delayed cord clamping, and parents/baby bonding time are standard of care and highly encouraged.
Placenta Encapsulation
This is an optional service for home birthing families. Placenta encapsulation is the practice of taking the placenta like a vitamin during the first 6 weeks postpartum. Moms who consume their placenta report less baby blues, more energy in postpartum, and increased milk supply.
Sneak Peek Gender Reveal
With the sneak peek clinical, you can learn your baby's sex with just a simple blood draw. This test is over 99% accurate at just 6 weeks of pregnancy.
